THE SPARKLE SHEET TURNS 1!
December 31, 2025 • Issue No. 27
Happy sixth day of Kwanzaa: Kuumba (Creativity)! ❤️❤️❤️🖤💚💚
Do you remember how you spent New Year’s Eve last year? Maybe you were cleaning your house, working on your vision board, or pulling together a party outfit. I was exactly where I am right now — sitting at my dining table/home office, tapping on my laptop. Back then I was frantic, determined to publish the first issue of the Sparkle Sheet before 2024 wrapped up and save enough time to get dressed for the evening. Today, I feel a serene sense of accomplishment. 💕
When I started this newsletter, I wasn’t sure what I really had to say. I thought I might recycle some anecdotes from my e-book, share some client stories (I think I had 0 clients this time last year), or maybe use some quotes from my favorite authors and coaches. The first issue was “THE TONI MORRISON QUOTE I’VE ADOPTED AS MY NORTH STAR”. It’s still a banger, if I do say so myself. 🙂
I also wasn’t sure if I’d follow through. A new issue every other week felt daunting on top of all of my other responsibilities. And I wasn’t entirely sure how publishing a free newsletter would translate to building paid clientele.
But the biggest question in my mind was about you: would there be an audience? Would my emails be another thing to delete, one more message taking up space in your junk folder next to relentless FashionNova coupons and Uber receipts?
I didn’t know, but there was only one way to find out. I took the advice I had given to previous clients and colleagues. And so I started. I started scared, I started unsure, I started self-conscious.
And I started to hear back from you all:

a kind note from Sparkle Sheet subscriber Eunice K.

a kind note from Sparkle Sheet subscriber Rosa R.
And that made me feel like I was helping, which is the whole reason why I became a teacher, and then a professor, and then a coach. I felt a sense of responsibility, like people were counting on me. But it didn’t feel like pressure, it actually made it easier to keep going.
Before long, it was a routine. When Wednesday morning would roll around, it was either time to clean my apartment (boo! 🍅🍅) or it was a Sparkle Sheet publishing day (yay! 🤓). I’d revisit the list of possible topics compiled from interesting articles I’d read, work-related problems shared by friends and former co-workers, and ‘aha’ moments I’d had between issues. Each time I wrote the new issue number, I felt like I’d taken a tangible step forward. Now we’re up to 27! When I look back to the first step I feel so very proud of the distance I’ve covered and so very grateful for your continued companionship.
the exciting news
I have a new idea that I’ll be sharing more details about in 2026, but I can give you a sneak preview now. We’ll have our first virtual (and free!) event for Sparkle Sheet family and friends. I feel ready to tell my story and to help the people in this community connect with each other — instead of just through me. Mark your calendar for 💎Thursday, January 22nd at 12pm 💎. I’m a little scared, a little unsure, a little self-conscious but — if this year has taught me anything — that’s not a reason to wait.
Be kind to yourself during tonight’s celebrations and join me in raising a toast for two special occasions: the beginning of a new year and the Sparkle Sheet’s 1st Birthday. See you in 2026! 💎
P.S. I’ll be sending out invites for 1/22 in the coming weeks. If there’s someone you think I should invite, let me know! I can email them directly or you can forward. 💕

What’s changed between 12/31/2024 and 12/31/2025?
What’s stayed the same between 12/31/2024 and 12/31/2025?
What have you been able to accomplish in the face of fear, uncertainty, and insecurity?
If you were able to ignore fear, uncertainty, and insecurity, what would you have started already?
Just like last season, I’ll remind you about the upcoming Spring Equinox in every issue.
🧑🏾🌾❄️ Let’s get goal farming (with optimism!)! We’re 1 week in with 12 more weeks to go.

read with me! I’m still reading the history textbook The American Yawp. It’s free to read online! Now I’m up to the 1820’s. The Industrial Revolution has led to the end of apprenticeships and the early beginnings of divisions between the working class and the owning class. Lower class children work in factories to help support their families, but the Child Labor and 10-hour Movements are about to take shape.
