rake it up: fall goals 🍁

September 23, 2026 • Issue No. 45

Good Afternoon Sparkle Gang!

It’s another glorious Wednesday. If you joined The Sparkle Sheet before the Summer Solstice, then you know we take the change of seasons very seriously around here! If you’ve been here since the very start: congrats, we’ve come all the way back around to another Autumnal Equinox! If you’re just joining us, grab a pair of overalls and let me get you up to speed.

A Full Year of Goal-Farming 🧑🏾‍🌾 💎

At the Summer Solstice 🧑🏾‍🌾 ☀️, we set goals that prioritize our own enthusiasm. Like the sun that shines all season, the intention here is to radiate joy.

At the Autumnal Equinox 🧑🏾‍🌾🍁, we set goals that bring closure. Like the close of the harvest season before the frost, the intention is clear minds (and clear to-do lists).

At the Winter Solstice 🧑🏾‍🌾 ❄️, we set goals that center optimism. Like the sun gives us a few more minutes each day, the intention is to look forward to new beginnings.

At the Spring Equinox 🧑🏾‍🌾 🌱, we set goals for incremental growth. Like watering a newly planted seed, the intention here is consistency.

Splitting the year into time-bound chunks I can actually wrap my mind around (each of these seasons is 13 weeks long) has helped me to feel like I’m making progress as the year marches on, instead of feeling like the time is slipping by. Based on the feedback I’ve gotten from you all 💕, it’s been a helpful approach.

On the agrarian calendar the first day of fall meant that the peak season of sun was finished and frost was coming; it was time to harvest, to get the crops out of the fields. That’s why so many of our symbols of fall — cornucopias, apple and pumpkin picking, fiery leaves floating toward the ground — are about clearing.

This season, hone in on a growth area that would benefit from closure and clarity. This could be related to your career, relationships, personal growth, mental health, physical fitness, organization, art practice, friendships, finances, nutrition…it could be anything!

For this harvesting season…

🌾 The goal is not to add more to your plate, the goal is to streamline your process.

🌾 The goal is not to take on a new project, the goal is to finish or officially sunset the ones that got sidelined.

🌾 The goal is not to look ahead (yet!), the goal is to reflect at the year’s end and ready for a self-informed new beginning.

So, this time around set a goal that feels like leaves falling softly to the ground, raked into neat piles, and returning to the Earth. Goals that feel like natural ends and full circle moments. Often, we’re keen to start new things and hustle on to the next but autumn reminds us that we’ve got to shed and clean house before new buds can arrive.

Happy Fall (and happy farming!), Sparkle Gang! 💎 🧑🏾‍🌾

  • Remember that “what you pay attention to grows”: What’s an area of your life (work or otherwise) where paying more attention could bring closure?

  • What’s a goal you can set in that area?

  • What incremental actions could bring you closer to closure and clarity?

  • How will you celebrate crossing the finish line on Monday, December 21?!

Just like last season, I’ll remind you about the upcoming Winter Solstice in every issue.

  • 🧑🏾‍🌾🍁 Let’s goal farm closure and clarity! You’re 0 weeks in and there are 13 to go! Have fun with it!

Come to The Buzz!

On October 7, Michaela and I are hosting a virtual discussion event called THE BUZZ 🐝 🐝. It’s free, there’s no pre-work, and you can come as you are. This time we’ll be buzzing about annual performances — and how to come correct and show up prepared with a combination of hard evidence and soft skills. All are welcome!
